Chilblains are the body’s reaction to changes in extreme temperature. These reactions include burning, itchy swellings resulting in a change of skin colour. In extreme cases the skin many become blistered. They mainly affect the extremities but can also affect areas exposed to pressure such as a bunion or toe deformity. They are more common in women than men and can occur at any age but are more common in children and the elderly due possible circulation inefficiencies.

Keeping the feet warm and moisturised will enable the chilblains to repair themselves, however in reoccurring chilblains or where you suspect your skin has become infected your GP or Podiatrist can prescribe further treatments.
